The Defenders: New Character Photos Revealed by EW
The Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to get its first big team-up event [...]
The Cover Story
The Defenders have been breaking ground individually in their respective series, so when they finally come together, it's definitely going to be a "cover-worthy" event.
...Although, in 2017, "The superhero mashup we've all been waiting for," is a title that should probably go to Justice League. Just saying.

Reflecting the 'gritty streets of NYC' world of Marvel/Netflix, this Defenders team photo is spot-on - down to the individual character poses.
The setting in Chinatown is slyly ominous, as the threat of The Hand looms larger over these heroes.

Breaking down the individual characters we begin with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), blind lawyer by day, crime fighting vigilante Daredevil by night.
This image suggests Matt is lost in a fog, with the red color suggesting emotions like rage.
prevnextJessica Jones
The big breakout character success story, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones is a making a highly-anticipated return in The Defenders. This image suggests we'll once again find the character within a lonely aloofness.
The purple tones are also ominous, but the liquor sign in the lower background is a nice touch. As is how this image dovetails with:

It's almost as if Jones is looking at her former lover Luke Cage from that balcony - which would both make sense if you put these images in clockwise four square pattern, and is a call back to Jones' own series. As for Luke, this image suggests an emergence - and after how his series ended (no spoilers), that seems appropriate.
prevnextIron Fist
The perplexion on Danny Rand's (Finn Jones) face emodies his character Iron Fist's confusion with the modern world he finds himself in, after years in a reclusive temple on the Asian continent.
Having the tease of that badass Iron Fist tattoo is nice, as well.
prevnextMisty Knight
Looks like the intrepid cop / Luke Cage "coffee" drinker will have a run in with a certain super-powered private eye (Jessica Jones), who also knows the taste of that particular coffee blend.
Should be familiar territory for Misty - until it gets awkward for both ladies, when Luke inevitably shows up.
prevnextColeen Wing
The other half of the female Heroes for Hire icons, Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) will be making her debut in Iron Fist, and from the footage we saw at New York Comic-Con, fans are going to love how badass she is!
As for what she an Iron Fist are doing on what is presumably a helipad? No idea.

SPOILER!
The Luke Cage series ended with our hero going back to jail for the crimes he was framed for - despite being accepted as a hero in Harlem. The Defenders will need to spring him from the pokey, and this scene makes us wonder if having all the skilled lawyers of Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist (Murdock, Nelson, Hogarth) at his disposal won't accomplish that.

We now know that Sigourney Weaver's villain character will be named "Alexandra." Click the link for a more extensive tease of her function in the show.
