When James Mangold's Logan releases in theaters on March 3, it will mark the end of Hugh Jackman's 17-year tenure as the Wolverine.
The latest film is a departure in style and scope among the X-Men films, retaining the heroic nature of the character in a more personal tale that touches on Logan's familial trappings.
But while Jackman will be saying farewell to the role that launched his career as a Hollywood superstar in 2000, it will not be easy.
While speaking with the New York Times about his role in Logan, Jackman admitted that he's constantly been going back to the recording booth or talking with the director. So he hasn't been able to quit the role cold turkey.
"I'm uncomfortable saying goodbye," he admitted.
When asked if he was confident that this would remain his final portrayal of Wolverine—a point that has been hammered down since before the film was even conceived—Jackman was adamant.
"When I had the script, I was like, 'Yes.' And when I was shooting the movie, yes," Jackman said. "As I sit here today, yes. God knows how I'll feel in three years. But right now, absolutely."
Jackman also admitted that though he often fears whether he gave enough, that his portrayal was good enough, on many of his performances, something felt right about this one.
"There's been a gnawing turmoil that I hadn't really nailed it, fully — either story or performance or whatever. Every film I've ever done, I've had that gnawing doubt. But I have it way less in this one."

Logan takes place in the year 2029, where mutant births have become extremely rare. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.
