10 Best Moments From The Thor: Ragnarok Trailer
Early this morning, Marvel debuted the very first trailer for the third film in the Thor [...]
Hela Crushes Mjolnir
Sure, there's no one else in the MCU worthy enough to pick up Thor's hammer. However, there's apparently one who can crush it with her bare hands.
This shot was epic, but it also made a statement. In this short scene, which was intentionally at the start of the trailer, Taika Waititi proved that Ragnarok will be unlike any Thor movie we've ever known.
All implications aside, this is just a cool shot. Cate Blanchett is about to take over Ragnarok.
prevnextDestruction Of Asgard
Asgard has been a staple of the MCU since the first Thor film in 2011 - but not for much longer. As Hela promised, she begins destroying Thor's home planet.
In Norse mythology, Ragnarok is the elimination of the gods. This scene - Hela's character - are nods to that very concept.
Thor and the Asgardians are in grave danger, and could face extinction.
prevnextThor Lands
After Thor escapes Asgard, he falls down onto a planet covered in trash. This is probably the planet of Sakaar, where Thor ends up being thrown into the arena.
What's cool about this scene, is just how realistic everything looks. From the trash heaps, to the masks being worn by the inhabitants, this looks much more like classic Star Wars films than anything the MCU has put out in recent years.
This scene also gives fans the first look at Valkyrie in action. She's taking Thor captive, and already got more attitude than anyone expected. In short, Tessa Thompson nailed it.
prevnextFall Of The Valkyries
Many believe that this scene is the fall of Valkyrie's race. In mythology, there are numerous valkyries that escort dead soldiers to the afterlife, but the MCU only has one.
This could be a flashback that shows why Valkyrie has her wagon hitched to Hela, and what may have happened to the rest of her people.
Watching the battle play out is really cool, as no one ever expected to watch a soldier go to war on the back of a pegasus while watching a Marvel movie.
prevnextJeff Goldblum
Just as Benicio Del Toro did with The Collector, it looks like Jeff Goldblum has perfectly portrayed the role of The Grandmaster.
These two Elders of the Marvel Universe are a bit quirky, but that makes total sense. While they can be laughed at, the are also totally feared.
Goldblum only had a couple of lines, but they were enough to make you wish that there were more.
prevnextHeimdall Returns
No one knew how Heimdall was going to work into this story, but this trailer gave us the first glimpse at the character. In one short scene, he's shown in an intense battle in the woods.
The character has his classic yellow eyes, and has found the time to grow out an epic set of dreadlocks.
It's clear he hasn't lost a step in terms of his skills on the battlefield, as he destroys the being he's at war with.
The big question here focuses on Heimdall's whereabouts. Is he still on Asgard, or did he manage to escape?
prevnextFirst Look At Skurge
After hearing Karl Urban had been cast as Skurge, the legendary Marvel strong-man, fans were ecstatic. With his deadpan attitude and experience in physical roles, the guy is perfect for the part.
When the one shot of Skurge showed up in the trailer, it was aimed directly at comic readers. The image of the villain firing his guns was directly out of an older issue of The Mighty Thor.
prevnextLoki Knife Flip
Everybody loves Loki, so it's no surprise that he would make his Ragnarok debut in the very first trailer.
In typical Loki fashion, he was seen doing something really cool, and no one could tell exactly which side he was on.
There is a battle going on around him, and it's difficult to say who it is Loki is actually fighting.
prevnextIntroducing...
Just as The Grandmaster begins to say the word 'Incredible', everyone knew exactly who would come bursting out of that tunnel.
Hulk didn't just come through the gate, he busted apart the entire entryway. Not only that, but the enormous character donned the gladiator armor from Planet Hulk, and he gave one of his most ferocious screams of all time.
prevnextWe Know Each Other!
As the trailer ended, Thor and Hulk treated fans to the laugh-out-loud moment of the day. Thor started cheering at the sight of his old teammate, hoping that it would save him from an awful battle.
When the crowd stopped cheering, Chris Hemsworth delivered the hilarious line, "I know him! He's a friend from work!"
This line, just before the titans clashed, set fans on their way with great big smiles on their faces.
