These days, it's a given that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe expect to find easter eggs. It is even expected for the franchise's films to bring in other superheroes or watch them team up. However, in films like Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War, fans were treated to an even better tie-in when superheroes fought against each other. The latter film followed heroes like Iron Man and Captain America as they went head-to-head. So, really, it is no surprise to learn that fans want another superhero showdown in Avengers: Infinity War.
Well, if one producer's tease says anything, then that wish may just be granted.
In an interview with Fandango, the head of Marvel Studios opened up about the unprecedented contents of Avengers: Infinity War. It was there the executive echoed previous statements which hinted that a rivalry would exist between the Guardians and the Avengers.
"The offscreen, on-screen banter is not too dissimilar from one another," Feige joked. But, when the producer was asked if the rivalry would lead the two teams to duke it out, Feige gave one teasing reply.
"All things are possible…" he trailed off with a laugh.
Of course, the president is not at liberty to say much of anything about Avengers: Infinity War and its actual contents. However, Feige did say the film would be unlike any other comic book adaptation before it.
"It's more exciting than people are aware of right now, with what's happening [on Infinity War]," Feige said. "We're doing things you've never seen before with films based on comics."
For now, fans can only fan-cast their dream match-up between the Guardians and the Avengers. Watching Rocket fight Bucky Barnes would be hilarious if the pair ever met, and a Gamora vs. Black Widow battle would be a must-see. However, it seems like fans are all wondering which of Earth's mightiest heroes Groot would take on. And, boy - do fans feel sorry for the poor hero who tries to tread on that tree.
Let's just hope it is not Ant-Man.
Avengers: Infinity War is described by Marvel Studios as the culmination of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man in 2008. The movie is filming now under directors Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
The expansive confirmed cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel are filming back-to-back for a May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 release, respectively.
