Last month, the Guardians of the Galaxy ripped their way back into theaters with one action-packed sequel. The intergalactic team of heroes banded together to save the universe yet again, and the movie has since earned more than $800 million worldwide. If you won’t get a chance to screen the film in cinemas, then you won’t have to wait too long to watch it at home. After all, it looks like the sequel’s Blu-ray and DVD will be out in just over two months.
Thanks to Target's international website, the release date for the Blu-ray and DVD of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has been released. The site says the sequel has its “street date” set of August 22, 2017. The film is available for pre-order on the website as of right now, but there is no word on how much the Blu-ray & DVD bundle in question is retailing for just yet.
So far, there has been no word on what kind of special features the home release with contain, but fans can expect great things. Marvel Studios is known for gut-busting gag reels, and director James Gunn has said plenty of scenes were ultimately scrapped from the final cut of the Guardians sequel.
For instance, Gunn has said a sixth post-credits scene was cut from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The director told USA Today the scene showed that a Ravager named Gef wound up surviving Yondu’s uprising after the captain was mutinied by his crew. “We realize that Gef has been on the ship the entire time mortally wounded," Gunn explained before adding. "It ended up being a little confusing."
Other scenes were snipped from the Guardians feature as well. Gunn has said a touching scene featuring Grandpa Quill back on earth was cut due to time. The director went on to say he’d like to share the deleted scene as it featured dozens of easter eggs, but it isn’t likely that the scenes will make it to special features. Gunn stressed only a few minutes of deleted scenes will make it to home release despite the film shaving off a total of 13 minutes.
