As the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Spider-Man: Homecoming made references to heroes all across the shared cinematic universe. But it also made quite a few references to the Spider-Man films that came before it - including one 'blink and you'll miss it' callback to 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man.
Spoilers incoming for Spider-Man: Homecoming, so if you haven't seen it yet, you've been warned.
In Homecoming's third act, Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland) decides that he needs to borrow a car, only for Flash Thompson (Tony Revolori) and his date to pull up to the school. As they do so, Flash rants about how he had to send his dinner back at the restaurant - specifically, his order of branzino, a Mediterranean fish.
This would initially seem like a coincidence, but as Vulture points out, the same fish makes an appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man. In one of the film's most noteworthy scenes, Peter (Andrew Garfield) endures an awkward dinner with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) and her family, during which branzino is served. You can watch the scene below.
The mention of branzino is certainly a small reference to Homecoming's franchise predecessor, but it's still a pretty well-crafted one.
