Don't Expect The MCU To Bring Back The Original Guardians Of The Galaxy Soon

Earlier this year, the Guardians of the Galaxy returned to theaters, but the team didn't come alone. The gang's comeback housed another iteration of the Guardians, one which predates Star-Lord's team by years. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ended with a scene hinting at the group's comeback, but director James Gunn does not want fans to hold their breath.
CinemaBlend has a chance to speak with Gunn recently, and the director told the site his sequel's post-credits scenes didn't tease immediate story lines.
"I didn't promise either of those things [the Guardians of the Galaxy 3000 team or Adam Warlock] are coming together in Vol. 3!" Gunn said.
"I am just sowing the seeds for what's going to be in the future of the Marvel Universe. I mean, we saw Thanos how many years ago? You know what I mean? So I want to make clear that I'm not promising those things in Guardians 3."
So, there you have it. If you were banking on the next Guardians of the Galaxy film to meet up with Yondu's former Ravagers crew, hold off on that bet.
Of course, there is room for the MCU to expand on the original Guardians team if it wanted. Gunn previously told the Toronto Sun he plans for Sylvester Stallone's Stakar to pop into future films.
"My plan is to see more of him," Gunn explained. "I'm not sure about him appearing in Vol. 3, we'll have to see about that, but it's our plan to see more of Stallone. Kevin [Feige] and I are working on what is going to become of the Marvel Cosmic Universe and where it's going to go. We plan to see the rest of them in the future."
Stallone isn't the only member of the Guardians 3000 crew who could show up in future cosmic features. Michael Rosenbaum, who plays Martinex, tweeted recently about his desire to return to the MCU.
So, who knows? If there is a demand for it, Marvel Studios may be able to swing a Guardians of the Galaxy standalone that hones in on the Ravagers. Gunn told Collider there's "always discussions" about doing a solo film with the space pirates, so fans will want to keep their ears open for any announcements.
