Every director has their vision of what the films they make should look like. That vision is influenced by their own inspirations and, in some cases, their dream choice of composer for the film's score.

Taika Waititi is no different. The Thor: Ragnarok director spoke with Entertainment Weekly about how Flash Gordon inspired tonal differences between this film and its predecessors, including Waititi's dream composer for the upcoming Thor installment — Freddie Mercury.

"I've often said if Freddie Mercury were alive, I would have asked Queen to do the soundtrack. It just has that feel: It's a cool, bold, colorful cosmic adventure. And it just needed to be fun."

Queen notably composed and performed the soundtrack for the 1980 Flash Gordon film. Sadly, Mercury's death in 1991 means that we won't know what Thor: Ragnarok would sound like as backed by the musical stylings of Queen, but we at least have some idea of how the film will look. Waititi also cited illustrator Jack Kirby's work as another "cosmic" inspiration for the film.

"I loved the kind of cosmic trippy vibe of the Thor comics," Waititi said.
