'Thor: Ragnarok' Is Influenced By Jason Aaron's Gorr Run

The latest film from Marvel Studios has roots firmly entrenched in the comic books, borrowing from some of the classic stories featuring the God of Thunder and the Jade Giant, but it also takes some influence from the new runs.
Thor: Ragnarok has some obvious inclusions from "Planet Hulk" as well as the "Thor: Disassembled" storyline from years ago. But director Taika Waititi said to Collider that the movie also builds off of Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic's "God Butcher" storyline from when the writer first took on the title.
"It was really 'Planet Hulk' and we pulled a little bit from 'God of Thunder' and the Gorr runs. I looked at all the stuff that I personally feel are the coolest in the comics," said Waititi. "We should have that and we should have that and we should have that."
However, Waititi also stressed that the movies should be direct adaptations of the source material.
"But I think you can ruin things by staying too true [to comics]," Waititi said. "With every comic run, there's always a retelling. There are rebirths. There are alternate universes. This film is so crazy, so eclectic, and there are so many amazing characters – Hulk, Thor, Hela. Loki, Grand Master… It really is, to my mind, the craziest of the Marvel films – in a good way."
Waititi previously said he wants his movie to feel like Thor 1, though it will build off of the events that took place in previous films. Thor: Ragnarok is meant to be a unique, self-contained film while also pushing the Marvel Cinematic Universe even closer to the inevitable battle with Thanos.
Thor: Ragnarok will continue the theme established in Captain America: Civil War, using the solo movies as an opportunity to team up Avengers members.
With Thor and Hulk fighting alongside Valkyrie and Loki, not to mention the cameo from Doctor Strange, the movie is shaping up to feature even more epic battles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
