A talking raccoon may be cute, but a talking raccoon without its skin on is just kind of terrifying.

That's what fans discovered when they watched the new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 behind-the-scenes special effects reel, seen above. The reel shows several of the creatures from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, including the monstrous Abilisk, being built from the skeleton on through the flesh and details, but the sight of Rocket without skin is particularly harrowing.

The reel also shows how some of the incredible locations of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 were created, showing off some real movie magic.

While fans now know what is literally under Rocket's skin, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has teased that they still get to know more about how Rocket came to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"As you know, the MCU is one way of processing these characters. 616 is a different one. We are going to learn more about where Rocket comes from in the coming sagas," Gunn stated. "It's going to be a little different from the comics. We already know a lot about from where he came from. It's a little bit more horrible than what it is in the comics when you come down to it. We will learn more about that."

Rocket is voiced by Bradley Cooper, who will voice the character again in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 and return for the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
