Jeff Goldblum is one of Hollywood's greatest treasures, and Marvel Studios finally got the actor to join in on one of its films. The actor will enter the MCU next month when Thor: Ragnarok debuts, but the film wasn't the first offered to the Jurassic Park star. Apparently, Goldblum turned down a chance to work with Captain America way back when.

Recently, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige spoke with Uproxx during Thor's recent press rounds. It was there he said Goldblum has been on his radar for years now, and he was once offered the part of a Senator in the first Captain America film.

"We had come close. I mean, I'll tell you, I think we spoke to him or offered him a role in Captain America: The First Avenger," Feige revealed.

"I think the role of the senator that was part of that USO tour in the first Captain America film. And he either wasn't available or wasn't interested or whatever. And thank goodness, because that would have just been a small thing and instead we got to wait for the Grandmaster, which is about as amazing as a Jeff Goldblum 'Goldblum-iness' could be."

Fans of Captain America can likely guess which Senator the actor had been asked to play. The film featured one Senator Brandt who witnessed Steve Rogers transform into a super-soldier thanks to a radically experimental treatment. The politician then used Captain America as living advert for the war effort, and Brandt's sleezy love for the media even made the the first Avenger feel nauseous.

Of course, Goldblum did good to hold off on accepting a Marvel role until Thor: Ragnarok. The actor turned down a two-bit role in Captain America to play an important celestial in Thor's third standalone. That is what fans would call a definite upgrade.
