'Ant-Man and the Wasp' Director Teases 'Civil War' Fallout

Shortly after Scott Lang made his mark as the superhero Ant-Man, helping save his mentor's inventions from falling into the wrong hands, the character was called up to the big leagues.

And the epic airport battle from Captain America: Civil War will have repercussions for the hero in the coming sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp.

New character breakdowns from the film were revealed by Empire Magazine, teasing how Scott Lang's giant-sized fight will affect his relationships as he starts to work with Hope Van Dyne in a more proactive role.

"The events of Captain America: Civil War gave us something clear, which is: what was Hank Pym and Hope Van Dyne's reaction to Scott having taken this technology out into the world in Civil War?" said director Peyton Reed. "We had a lot of fun playing around with that. And we play with size and scale a lot. I love the idea of Giant-Man."

Pym isn't going to be too thrilled with Scott's reckless behavior in the Ant-Man suit, especially in a petty squabble between two feuding Avengers, but there are other problems on the scientist's plate.

"The events of Civil War, and how Scott reacted to that, have thrown a big wrench into the works," Reed said. "But his curiosity has been reawakened about the Quantum Realm and whether Janet's still alive down there."

We've already heard that Janet Van Dyne will have a major impact in the new film, but let's not forget that Hope is sharing the top billing in this film alongside Scott.

"This is really her coming out party as a hero," Reed said of Evangeline Lilly's character. "Her power set is fantastic. She and Scott both shrink, but there the flying, and the fighting style of The Wasp is different from Ant-Man's."

It sounds like Scott, once again, will be in the dog house among his contemporaries. We'll see how the rest of the Pym and Van Dyne clan deal with his antics when Ant-Man and the Wasp premieres in theaters on July 6, 2018.
