'Thor: Ragnarok' Director Taika Waititi Offers Hilarious Congratulations To Oscar Nominees

Last year's Thor: Ragnarok was a massive critical and financial success, completely reinvigorating the Thor franchise. Despite the film's accomplishments, Ragnarok wasn't recognized by the Academy Awards, with the film failing to earn even a nomination in a technical category. The film's director, Taika Waititi, took to Twitter to congratulate nominees while also taking credit for their successes.

The director joked, "Congrats to @kumailn @emilyvgordon @JordanPeele @edgarwright @RealGDT and all the other @_________'s on your Oscar nomnoms! Very proud to be your mentor and inspiration and basically the unacknowledged reason for all your success! Go us! We did this!"

Having gotten his start in smaller comedic and genre films, Waititi shared his congratulations for the minds behind The Big Sick, Get Out, Baby Driver and The Shape of Water.

Wright, who wrote and directed the three-time nominee Baby Driver, joked back, "Oh I see. Taika 'All The Credit' Waititi strikes again."

The Thor director even took credit for the insult.

"I helped Edgar compose this tweet," Waititi teased.

Ragnarok wasn't the only comic book movie snubbed by the Academy, with Wonder Woman also failing to score even a single nomination. Many had predicted the film could have earned itself a Best Actress, Best Director or even a Best Picture nomination, yet the DC Extended Universe film was skipped completely.

Hugh Jackman's swan song to Wolverine, Logan, snagged a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

The Thor films have often been considered weaker spots in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which all changed with Ragnarok, as it injected much more fun into its narrative than seen in virtually any other Marvel movie. Waititi and star Chris Hemsworth even discussed possibilities for Thor 4 over the holidays.

"We gave cheers to Thor 3," Hemsworth shared with USA Today. "But it also was like what could we do with four? We could do this and this. We were throwing ideas around. But also, just to work together again. That was one of the most enjoyable creative partnerships I've ever had."

The actor's future in the MCU is up for debate, however, as his contract has been fulfilled and Hemsworth has claimed he wants to spend some time with his family.

Thor: Ragnarok debuts on Blu-ray and DVD on March 6.
