Thor: Ragnarok in so many ways stands out not only from the relatively cinematically meh Thor films but from the entire Marvel cinematic universe. One of the many reasons why that is, is the fantastic cinematic innovation of the production company, The Satellite Lab.

The Satellite Lab, namely Stuart Rutherford created a Matrix bullet time-like lighting set up that would not only "slow" down a scene but give it a stunning painterly look. DynamicLight, as it's called, syncs the lighting with the frames of the cameras used to give it the perfect flashback look.

In an interview with Syfy Wire, Thor: Ragnarok's visual effects supervisor Jake Morrison describes it as allowing people "to freeze a moment in time and then move the camera around at impossible speeds, depicting it all realistically, this is literally like a 180-degree version of that."

While you've seen the finished product in theaters and now on DVD/Streaming, Thor: Ragnarok's director just shared a behind the scene's look at one of the first test videos of the system:
