Today was a good day for Marvel Studios fan. While the first reactions to Black Panther are still pouring in, Marvel is already forging ahead by releasing the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is the sequel to 2015's Ant-Man. As the title suggests, Paul Rudd returns as Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man. This time Scott has a partner in Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne, aka the Wasp.
Michael Douglas also returns as original Ant-Man, and Hope's father, Hank Pym. Michelle Pfeiffer has been cast as Hope's missing mother Janet van Dyne, the original Wasp.
The trailer was full of the same great energy that made Ant-Man a hit. A lot of these familiar faces made appearances, as well as several of the film's newcomers. There were also plenty of examples of Pym's size-changing technology in action.
Out of all that, we chose the ten best moments from the first Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer. Keep reading to see what they are.
"I Guess We'll Never Know"
Ant-Man and the Wasp is the first direct sequel to Ant-Man, but Scott Lang has kept busy. When the Falcon came calling on behalf of Captain America to recruit Ant-Man during the events of Captain America: Civil War, Ant-Man answered that call.
Not only did Ant-Man show up, but he even went Giant-Man during the battle against Team Iron Man at the airport. Of course, he ended up imprisoned for it, but Captain America sprung him eventually.
But where was Hope? We know she had a Wasp costume in the works. Did she turn the offer down?
It turns out Scott never asked her to come. And now, as she says in the trailer, we'll never know if she would have taken up the offer, though she does suggest that Scott wouldn't have been caught if she went him. Hank Pym surely would not have approved.
Shrinking a Building
We saw some neet tricks done with Pym particle technology in the first Ant-Man, but the trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp has already topped them all.
Early in the trailer, we see Hank Pym casually walking away from a building and just as casually shrinking that entire building behind him. He then cocks the entire building back on wheels and loads it into a van.
Apparently, Hank Pym and Hope have been on the run because of Scott's actions, and are still on the run now. When you're a super-scientist like Hank Pym, even being on the run is something you do with style.

The trailer gives us a taste of Ant-Man getting back into action.
The trailer shows Scott Lang shrinking down to ant size and hitching a ride on the back of a flying ant.
Its good to see Ant-Man back in the saddle here. Some of the most memorable moments from the first Ant-Man movie involved Scott and his favorite ant, Antony. Antony came to an unfortunate end in Ant-Man so its good to see that Scott isn't too traumatized to get back to work.
Not to mention that Scott Lang's most iconic look from the comics is him riding on the back of just such an ant.

As mentioned, audiences got to see some pretty neat tricks involving Pym particle technology, but Ant-Man and the Wasp seems to be taking things to an entirely new level.
The bit where Hank Pym shrinking a building show that they're pushing into new territory in terms of scale. This bit where team Ant-Man shrinks their van drives underneath another van and then grows back to flip that other van over shows that they're being incredibly inventive with how they deploy this technology in action scenes.
If this is the kind of size-changing stunt they're showing off in the trailer, we can't wait to see what they're holding back for the movie's debut.
prevnextGiant-Man Goes Godzilla
We mentioned Ant-Man went Giant-Man in Captain America: Civil War. Well, Ant-Man is doing it again in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
This shot from the trailer shows Giant-Man peering down on some folks on a boat. It's a very "Godzilla" moment, as Giant-Man rises from the depths and stares down at the regular-sized humans.
We saw a lot of small-scale action in Ant-Man, but it looks like Ant-Man and the Wasp will be playing at both ends of the size spectrum. That opens up a lot of possibilities when it comes to action sequences, stunts, and fight scenes for Peyton Reed and his crew.
prevnextA Trip to the MIcroverse
Ant-Man offered Marvel fans the briefest glimpses of the realm known as the microverse, aka the Quantum Realm. It was mostly presented as a thing to be feared, a trap you couldn't escape, but Scott Lang managed to go there and back.
It looks like Ant-Man and the Wasp is planning something similar. This unusual setting seems to be the microverse. It looks like rather than fear the mysterious realm, team Ant-Man is going to be doing a little exploring.
Remember that Janet Van Dyne, the original Wasp, was supposedly lost in the microverse. Perhaps this is where Michelle Pfieffer can be found.
prevnext"Someone to Watch Your Back..."
The Pym/Van Dyne family aren't the only ones looking for a potential family reunion. Towards the end of the trailer, we get a see between Scott Lang and his daughter, Cassie.
Cassie and Scott are having a discussion in which Cassie wonders if Scott just needs someone to watch his back. This is a great moment for a couple of reasons.
One is that it alludes to the Wasp's role as a co-lead in Ant-Man and the Wasp. The other reason is that Cassie is the most important thing in Scott Lang's life and the major motivation for the characters. The scene is a reward in itself.

Speaking of the Wasp, the Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer gives us our first look at Hope van Dyne in action with her brand new Wasp costume.
The Wasp seems like she was born for this kind of action. She seamlessly bounces back and forth in size, seems entirely comfortable running on a literal knife's edge while dodging bullets, and seems to enjoy taking out the thugs in her way.
Of course, fans of the original Ant-Man know that Hope van Dyne was basically born for this life, being the daughter of the original Ant-Man and the original Wasp. They also knew that she knows how to throw a punch, having taught Scott Lang how to do it himself.
prevnext"You Gave Her Wings?
Almost as good as the new Wasp's first on-screen fight scene is Scott Lang's reaction to the Wasp's first on-screen fight scene.
Ant-Man is a little surprised to find that the Wasp has wings. He's also pretty surprised when she breaks out the sting blasts on her wrists. He assumes that Hank Pym must not have had that technology available during the events of the previous Ant-Man movie. Hank Pym lets Scott know that he definitely did.
It's exciting to see the banter between Hank and Scott making a comeback. That back and forth humor between the characters was so important to Ant-Man's success.

Everyone who saw Ant-Man remembers the moment when Thomas the Train grew to a much larger size and went crashing through Cassie's bedroom wall.
Well, the trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp has a similar moment. This time its a Hello Kitty Pez Dispense that get that giant-sized treatment and sent out the back of Team Ant-Man's van in the midst of a car chase.
Again, if this moment is already being teased in the trailer, we can only imagine what kind of size-changing hijinks Ant-Man and the Wasp is holding back on us for when the film enters theaters in July.
