Avengers: Infinity War Features A Rivalry Between The Guardians & Avengers

Last year, moviegoers watched as some of the biggest egos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe came to a head. Captain America: Civil War followed heroes like Captain America and Iron Man as the two went head-to-head against one another. The massive film saw its ensemble cast get pitted against one another, but the third Captain America film will have nothing on the next Avengers flick.

When Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters, fans will see Marvel Studios take on its most ambitious project yet. The blockbuster will team up the Avengers with the likes of the Guardians of the Galaxy and even Doctor Strange. However, according to the intergalactic superhero squad, the Guardians will act abrasively towards the Avengers.

"We were so cocky," Zoe Saldana told Fandango during a recent interview about Avengers: Infinity War. "Deep down we were like, 'We're the Guardians of the Galaxy!' But it was super exciting -- the fact that they're bringing every character in the Marvel universe together and that this super villain is such a prominent figure amongst the Guardians of the Galaxy gives our level of importance quite a boost."

Dave Bautista went on to stress that the Guardians will meet the Avengers as an entire unit - and the encounter may shake-up Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

"When we come onto set as the Guardians, we are the Guardians," he explained. "Anybody stepping onto set with us has to deal with all of us. There are usually one or two Avengers. We are the Guardians, we come as that and carry a scene like that and we do business as usual, which is a lot of chemistry, a lot of interaction amongst ourselves. And the Russos were very encouraging of that. I think we've established ourselves and we deserve to be right up there with the Avengers. I think we're just as strong, if not stronger, as a unit, 'cause we're a family."

And, with a subtle nod, Saldana confirmed the Guardians would meet with the Avengers up in space. Clearly, the location will give the ragtag galactic team a heads-up thanks to their home advantage.

"We're also in space, so we're not being held by gravity," she teased, "And you know we're stronger."

The cast would not confirm whether the Avengers and Guardians have a full-on feud, but Chris Pratt was free to trash-talk his cinematic comrades. "We're the Guardians of the Galaxy -- we don't get intimidated!" he stressed.

Avengers: Infinity War is described by Marvel Studios as the culmination of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man in 2008. The movie is filming now under directors Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The expansive confirmed cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel are filming back-to-back for a May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 release, respectively.
