Marvel Bringing Back The Real Jean Grey

Marvel Legacy has been promoted as a celebration of the stories and characters that helped paved the way for the publishing giant, teasing to bring back fan favorites who have been missing in recent storylines.

But while some are clamoring for the return of the Fantastic Four or Professor Xavier, recent storylines have hinted that a certain crimson-haired mutant might be on her way back to the forefront. According to solicitations for December's comics, the real Jean Grey is set to return.

The solicitation reveals a new comic called Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey by Matthew Rosenberg and Leinil Francis Yu would release at the end of the year. Check out the synopsis below:

Years ago, Jean Grey died and the X-Men mourned her. Since then, the world has changed, her teammates have lived without her and died without her. And now, when strange events start happening all over the world, those teammates can only come to one conclusion – the one true Jean Grey is back!

Jean is returning at a time when her classic teammates, such as Cyclops, Professor X, and Wolverine, have all perished. But her return has been prefaced by a lot of groundwork.

A time-traveling, teenaged Jean Grey has come from the past and been stuck in the present day for the last few years. Her recent comic by Dennis Hopeless, Victor Ibañez, and Jay David Romos has shown the character receiving visions of the Phoenix Force coming for her, and she's been learning more about the cosmic entity and her adult self's history in an attempt to thwart it.

She's also teamed with the Unworthy Thor AKA Odinson, with those two character's mythologies becoming increasingly intertwined.

The Mighty Thor AKA Jane Foster recently partnered with Quentin Quire in an adventure featuring the Phoenix Force. And the issue of Marvel Generations: The Worthy featuring the current Thor and the former Thor ends with a tease for Marvel Legacy, which features Odin and the Phoenix admitting to a former relationship.

Both issues were by Jason Aaron, who will also write the Marvel Legacy issue which promises the return of a beloved character.

All of this seems to be laying the ground work for the original Jean Grey's return, who hasn't been seen since a Magneto imposter (don't ask) murdered her at the end of Grant Morrison's New X-Men run.

Hopefully, death is a habit she learns to kick in the future.
