Spoilers ahead for Transformers: The Last Knight.
If you've seen advertising for this week's Transformers: The Last Knight, it's likely you have seen Optimus Prime acting evil and trying to kill Bumblebee.
With purple eyes (as opposed to his usual blue, or the red of the Decepticons), Prime has the same voice but a very, very different personality.
So what's that story behind that? Well, this is the Michael Bay version of Nemesis Prime.
If you are not familiar with Nemesis Prime, then you have a bit to catch up on. In the Transformers universe, the character is a dark-mirror clone of Optimus Prime who lacks all morality but has all the skills.
Fans have speculated the arrival of Nemesis Prime since Age of Extinction hit theaters. The film ended with Optimus Prime heading to space to find his maker, and there is always a chance the Autobot could have encountered his clone's dark dimension.
In the movies, there's no clone, though: after confronting his maker, Quintessa, Prime is tied up, beat up, and eventually brainwashed into compliance with her war on Unicron.
In Transformers: The Last Knight, humans are at war with the Transformers, and Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving the future lies buried in the secrets of the past and the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Now, it's up to the unlikely alliance of Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg), Bumblebee, an English lord (Anthony Hopkins) and an Oxford professor (Laura Haddock) to save the world.
Transformers: The Last Knight is directed by Michael Bay. The film stars Mark Wahlberg and Stanley Tucci reprising their roles from Transformers: Age of Extinction, with Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro reprising roles from the first three Transformers movies.
Transformers: The Last Knight's voice cast includes Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, John Goodman as Hound, and John DiMaggio as Crosshairs. Other transformers appearing the film include Bumblebee, Drift, Hot Rod, Cogman, Canopy, Sqweeks, Grimlock, Megatron, Barricade, Onslaught, Hooligan, and Mohawk.
Transformers: The Last Knight opens in theaters on June 21, 2017.
