Transformers: The Last Knight is widely regarded as the worst film in the entire franchise (and one of the lowest-grossing, so far) - but it nonetheless made an ambitious push to expand the franchise into a whole potential cinematic universe of sequels, spinoffs and prequels.

There are already story plans for Transformers 6 & 7 in place (with a new director replacing Michael Bay), and there's even another Transformers spinoff that could take place in ancient Rome. However what fans are most excited for is a Bumblebee spinoff/prequel movie that will be set in the 1980s.

The main reason for the excitement surrounding the Bumblebee movie is the fact that it will return the Transformers franchise the beloved "G1 Era" of the 1980s cartoon series - but if you were to see 'Bee partnered up with someone like young cartoon protagonist Spike in his solo movie - think agian.

THR has the exclusive report that actor Jorge Lendeborg Jr. as the male lead in the Bumblebee movie. If you don't recognize the name, it's okay: Lendeborg has only been acting in mostly small roles since 2014, with a starring role in last year's skateboarding/coming-of-age drama, The Land. However, he most recently had a background role as one of Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) classmates in Spider-Man: Homecoming. He will also star in Robert Rodriguez's adaptation of the anime Alita: Battle Angel

Lendeborg Jr. will star in the Bumblebee spinoff alongside True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld, who will play a tomboy working as an after-school mechanic. No further details have been released about Lendeborg Jr.'s character, but it's not hard to imagine the young actor taking on a similar role as Shia LaBeouf's Sam Witwicky, when he first encountered Bumblebee (disguised as a beat-up Chevy) in the first Transformers movie.

The Transformers Bumblebee spinoff will hit theaters on June 8, 2018. Transformers: The Last Knight is now in theaters.
