Mark Ruffalo On How He Learned He Was Live Streaming 'Thor: Ragnarok'

Mark Ruffalo is known to tease fans with spoilers for huge Marvel Studios movies, but he usually does that intentionally. The Hulk actor surprised everyone last week when he accidentally left his livestream on with his phone in his pocket during a screening of Thor: Ragnarok, playing the first 10-15 minutes of audio to anyone tuned in.

Ruffalo finally opened up about that incident in a discussion with Angela Bishop of Australia's Channel 10, providing some insight into his spoilerific snafu.

"I don't know what happened to me that night. I thought I shut it off," said Ruffalo. "They asked me to Instagram Live the backstage stuff that night. Marvel asked me to do that. I never did Instagram Live! I don't know how this sh*t works!"

Though press and public are given pouches to keep their phones in during Disney screenings, in order to prevent such an event from occurring, Ruffalo was not required to hand over his phone. Probably because he's one of the movie's stars? It's hard to tell.

"So I did [the livestream] and I shot it, and they're like 'Ok, get to your seat! Hurry!' And I push the button, as, like, you push a button and its supposed to stop. But you have to push TWO buttons. So I push one button and I put it in my pocket."

Ruffalo said a woman who he didn't know came up from behind him, poked him in the shoulder, and yelled at him.

"'Take your phone off! Your Instagram Live is still on! It's broadcasting the whole movie!'"

He joked that Marvel wouldn't have a problem firing him, considering that they've already recasted the Hulk twice at this point. "They have no qualms of just canning your ass," Ruffalo added, "and there's a line of people just waiting to play this part."

But Ruffalo still has a job at this point, and Thor: Ragnarok is expected to be the beginning of a three-film arc that will culminate in the untitled Avengers movie coming after Avengers: Infinity War.
