The epic first adventure of the Justice League in the DC Extended Universe may be surprising un-epic in terms of length.

Multiple theater chains, including Regal Cinemas and AMC Theatres, list the runtime for Justice League at 121 minutes, just over two hours. That would make it the shortest movie in the DC Extended Universe series so far.

By comparison, Man of Steel's runtime was 143 minutes. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had a runtime of 153 minutes. Suicide Squad was slightly longer than Justice League, with a runtime of 123 minutes, while Wonder Woman had a run time of 141 minutes.

ComicBook.com reached out to the theaters and they have confirmed that this is the time they were provided, but we've also reached out to Warner Bros. and they haven't confirmed this is the official runtime at the time of this article's publication.

The relatively short running time is unexpected for a couple of reason. First is that, with an ensemble cast consisting of all of the DC Extended Universe's biggest heroes, one would likely assume that a film like Justice League would be longer than average in order to accommodate each character's individual arc.

Second is that Justice League was directed by Zack Snyder, who also directed Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. As such, one might expect all three films to have similar run times.

Snyder left the project during post-production and Joss Whedon stepped in for reshoots and to complete the editing process. Perhaps part of what Whedon did with the film was to tighten it up to a shorter length and trim some excess, though practically everyone involved with the film has insisted that Snyder's vision for Justice League remains in place.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was given an Ultimate Edition home media release that featured 31 minutes of additional footage. Perhaps a similar release is in store for Justice League that will provide the film was a length more in line with what many fans were expecting.

Justice League currently has a 4.17 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Anticipation rating making it the third most anticipated upcoming comic book movie among ComicBook.com readers.
