Earlier today, a British tabloid The Daily Star claimed that a senior executive at HBO divulged to them that "exploratory talks" have taken place with Kit Harington regarding a Game of Thrones spin-off show centered around his character, Jon Snow.

"Any spin-off built around Jon Snow, who is hugely popular with fans, would also undoubtedly involve other characters from the cast," their source told them. "When the seventh season wraps next year, it's going to be a case of figuring out who we want to join us for a new show and which of those cast members actually want to jump on board."

Many outlets ran with the tantalizing story, even though the source isn't known for being reliable; however, one outlet didn't take the bait. Entertainment Weekly reports, "But reps for the show and actor say there is zero truth to this."

Just last month, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said the cable network currently has no plans for any Game of Thrones spin-offs; however, he is open to the possibility if there is a "strong creative vision" to justify one.

George R.R. Martin, the author of the books in which the series is based on, said last month that he would be in favor of a spin-off and even suggested using his Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, which are set in the same universe as Game of Thrones but take place 90 years earlier.

Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne continues. It stretches from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues, to the vast and savage eastern lands, where a young queen raises an army. All the while, in the frozen north, an 800-foot wall of ice precariously protects the war-ravaged kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men...all play the Game of Thrones.

The cast features: Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Kit Harington as Jon Snow, Aidan Gillen as Petyr Baelish, Liam Cunningham as Davos Seaworth, Carice van Houten as Melisandre, Natalie Dormer as Margaery Tyrell, Indira Varma as Ellaria Sand, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, Conleth Hill as Varys, Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy, John Bradley as Samwell Tarly, Tom Wlaschiha as Jaqen H'ghar, Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth, Hannah Murray as Gilly, Jonathan Pryce as the High Sparrow, Michiel Huisman as Daario Naharis, Iwan Rheon as Ramsay Bolton, Dean-Charles Chapman as Tommen Baratheon, Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark, Jerome Flynn as Bronn, and Iain Glen as Jorah Mormont.

A new episode of Game of Thrones airs tonight at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
