20th Century Fox has released a nearly 5-minute long new extended trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence. The trailer focuses quite a bit on the legacy of the first film, giving the recap information a minute and thirty seconds until they discover the new problem/threat in the form of a distress beacon, and two minutes and ten seconds until they know a new alien threat is actively on the way.

There seems to be a lot more Jeff Goldblum in the trailer, and some solid time spent on individual scenes, with 15-20 second chunks of scenes shown, a lot more than you'd usually see in a trailer. "She has arrived" is teased by one of the captured aliens, which seems to indicate that will have an alien queen, not unlike in Aliens.

Independence Day was just the beginning. We always knew they were coming back. After that film redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter in theIndependence Day universe delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

The sequel, hitting U.S. theaters June 24, 2016, follows-up on the events of the original film from twenty years ago, with the aliens that attacked Earth (and were beaten by a worldwide joint task force) returning with bigger, stronger weapons.
