Sherlock Gets A Musical Parody

Sherlock fans still have a way to go before Season 4 of the BBC drama finally arrives. In the meantime, YouTube channel The Hillywood Show has provided a musical diversion to keep those fans entertained.

The Hillywood Show's parody sets the detective adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson to the tune of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop," but with new lyrics appropriate to Sherlock and Watson's eccentric lifestyle. The video recreates moments from episodes "A Study in Pink," "The Great Game," "A Scandal in Belgravia," "The Sign of Three" and others.

Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat even makes a brief appearance in between the end of the musical portion of the video and the credits sequence. Check out the parody in the video above.

Sherlock has been on a prolonged hiatus while trying to work around the busy schedules of stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Freeman starred in The Hobbit trilogy, with Cumberbatch provided the voice of the trilogy's Smaug the Dragon and the Necromancer. Both actors also joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Cumberbatch set to star in Marvel Studio's next blockbuster, Doctor Strange, which is an arrangement that could lead to a Sherlock actors' on-screen reunion.

In 2016, the BBC aired a Sherlock New Year's Day special titled Sherlock: The Abominable Bride The special episode took the modernized characters from the BBC series and reimagined them in the original Victorian setting of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original stories. The episode's story eventually revealed that the entire Victorian narrative was all an exercise within modern Sherlock's "mind palace," as he tried to piece together a Victorian mystery in hopes of gaining some insight into James Moriarty's apparent resurrection. The entire episode took place while Sherlock was still on the plane he was last seen boarding for exile in the Sherlock Season 3 finale.

Sherlock Season 4 began filming in April 2016. In May, the BBC announced that they had cast Toby Jones as a classic Sherlock Holmes villain for Sherlock Season 4, supposedly the scariest villain seen on the show so far.

The BBC brought Sherlock to Comic-Con International: San Diego 2016, where a new Sherlock Season 4 trailer was released. At Comic-Con, ComicBook.com spoke to showrunners Moffat and Mark Gatiss about the "bromance" between Sherlock and Watson that is the heart of the series. Star Benedict Cumberbatch cautioned that thing would be getting dark for Sherlock in Season 4. Amanda Abbington discussed the big twist for her character, Mary Marston Watson, in Season 3, and Abbington and producer Sue Vertue teased a lot of tears coming in Season 4.

Sherlock Season 4 will premiere on the BBC in 2017.
