Disney has enlisted the expertise of Guy Ritchie for the live-action Aladdin movie.

The film is yet to earn a release date but is based on 1992 cartoon which starred Robin Williams as the voice of the genie and Scott Weinger as Aladdin. The movie tells the tale of a young man who is granted three wishes when he encounters the genie inside of a magic lamp and the evil sorcerer who covets it.

Aladdin was the highest grossing film of 1992.

The live-action Aladdin is being written by John August and will reportedly keep any and all of the musical elements of the animated film out.

Ritchie's impressive resume extends to a number of acclaimed films. Some of the highlights include Snatch, The Man from UNCLE, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, RocknRolla, and 2011's Sherlock Holmes. His next movie is on its way to theaters with Charlie Hunnam starring in King Arthur.

The live-action adaptation comes on the heels of news regarding a live-action adaptation of other Disney classics. Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and The Lion King (which has Iron Man's Jon Favreau in the director's chair).

The Aladdin movie does not yet have a release date.
