5 Great Xmas Episodes Of Geek Television
Every holiday season, TV shows try to help get viewers into the spirit with Christmas-themed [...]
"Christmas Party" - The Office
This one of the best episodes within arguably the best season of The Office, and as a Christmas story, it's geek comedy gold.
When Michael Scott (Steve Carell) decides to thrown an office Christmas party, things are bound to go wrong; however, the real gold of this episode is the Secret Santa sequence, in which Michael introduces a twist called "Yankee Swap" that nearly derails everything.
Meanwhile, the super cute geek love story between Jim and Pam only got cuter.
"Amends" - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
If you hadn't fallen for David Bareanaz's Angel by this point in Buffy's run, this would've been the episode to make you swoon.
At Christmas time, Angel is tormented by memories of those he killed - only to discover The First Evil is purposefully pushing him to the brink of insanity. Luckily, Angel has a badass girlfriend in Buffy, who sops the bad guys and saves her man in time for one of the cheesier Christmas story endings in memory.
Still though, this is classic Joss Whedon storytelling.
"The End of Time" - Doctor Who
There are a lot of things happening in this Doctor Who Christmas special, but the one thing that mattered most was a sad farewell to David Tenant as The Doctor, with his final words "I don't want to go," making geeks of all ages get choked up.
Sure, we got a great new Doctor in Matt Smith, but this was a sad farewell that bookended an exciting Doctor Who Christmas special.
"Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas" - Community
Community was a treasure trove of geek fun, but this was definitely the best of its Christmas episodes. Mixing both the light and dark aspects of the holiday season, this episode shows what happens when the childlike naiveté of Abed (Dani Pudi) suffers a hard breakdown.
The result? Some truly twisted (and sentimental) Claymation comedy. Move over Rudolph...
"Xmas Story" - Futurama
Futrama's first Christmas story is the king of animated geek Christmas episodes. In it, Fry tries to spend his first Christmas in the future by buying a present for his crush Leela, only to discover that Christmas in the future is a very deadly holiday.
Introducing John Goodman's Robot Santa Claus, "Xmas Story" is about as zany as a geek cartoon can get with Christmas.
