Rich caught ire after posting a tweet that read “Barron will be this country’s first homeschool shooter.” Her social media account was deactivated shortly after, though she did return to post an apology for the joke.
Harmon, however, defended her joke and the right to tell it.
Yes I would. I would tolerate all jokes. I do tolerate all jokes. And so do you. Because we have not lost our motherfucking god damn minds. https://t.co/dltmQtpEAX— (((Dan Harmon))) (@danharmon) January 23, 2017
Though NBC’s punishment doesn’t hasn’t been elaborated, Harmon’s tweets indicate that he would offer her employment on another popular television program.
I'm sure Katie Rich will have better offers but I'll start bidding, will fly her to LA first class and give her what my studio pays me— (((Dan Harmon))) (@danharmon) January 23, 2017
SNL has made a habit mocking Trump in its weekly episodes and has doubled down on their efforts since he was elected President of the United States, and when Alec Baldwin returns they as host they probably won’t let up. But NBC executives have since drawn a line over what topics are off limits to its employees.
Whether Rich takes Harmon up on his offer remains to be seen, but the social media uproar is far from over.
