We lost an incredible amount of Hollywood icons in 2016, causing many to think the year had some sort of curse looming over its head. From Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher's passing (paired with fellow Singin' in the Rain legend Debbie Reynolds the day after her daughter) to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star Gene Wilder.
The Academy Awards showcased an incredibly touching tribute to all of those industry icons with an emotional In Memoriam segment that honored those we've lost. Watch the incredibly touching tribute below.

If you watched the segment, you knew how truly painful it was to have to remember all of the incredibly talented performers we lost in 2016 who gave us some of our all-time favorite movie moments. It was obvious that the packed house was also touched by the moment when cameras showed some of the filmmakers we still have with us that were clearly shaken.
Considering we already lost the amazing Bill Paxton the day before the event, we already know that next year's In Memoriam segment will also be a touching one. We just hope 2017 is a little kinder to our favorite performers than 2016.
