Many movies require suspension of disbelief to varying degrees, some more than others. But Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie requires a second brain with its own set of legs just to make all of the logic leaps required.
So kudos to the Cinema Sins crew who recently reviewed the movie under their “Everything Wrong With” series, because they must have gone through an infinite supply of patience and about seven kilos of cocaine just to get through it all.
The nearly 20 minute YouTube clip goes through the entire 90 minute film, though we’re pretty sure they could have kept it at the entire length of the movie and found a lot more wrong with it so kudos to them for making it brief in comparison.
It’s obvious the movie doesn’t hold up to contemporary standards, and its a wonder that it ever held up to begin with, but holy crap is it fun to watch. There are so many crazy moments in the film it’s almost amazing to think of how much it got away with. Was everyone on acid? Or that coercive serum used in CIA black sites? Because there is little sense to this movie.
Ivan Ooze sneezes out his lackeys after being released by an Angel Grove construction crew. Zordon and Alpha Flight teleport a group of teenagers to certain death on a planet on the other side of the universe. Parents are brainwashed into a mass suicide pact. And the CGI graphics look just as good as Tupac being resurrected at Coachella.
Did the studio executives just fall asleep for the entirety of this movie? Or just not watch it all with the excuse of “screw it, kids will watch anything?” Because they were right.
So check out Cinema Sins video and then pour out 40 ounces in memory of this film’s sound designer who surely overdosed off of too many ‘whoosh’ noises shortly after completion. Rest In Peace, whoosher.
