Toei put fans on alert when they registered not one but two trademarks for the next season of Super Sentai, and some new rumors have shed new light on what the season will look like.

The new rumors come courtesy of Tokuinsider J-Hero (via Tokunation), though at this point it is important to note that these new details have not been confirmed in any way by Toei. With that out of the way, let's get to the good stuff, shall we?

So according to J-Hero, both Keisatsu Sentai Patoranger and Kaito Sentai Lupinranger will be a part of the 42nd season. There was some thought given to those trademarks being two separate seasons, but that seems not to be the case. Now, both of those will be separate works though, but under the same show. Confused? Here's how it breaks down.

There will be two different storylines taking place in the same world. Patoranger and Lupinranger will alternate each week, with stories that are unique but intersect with the other. Eventually, around episode 20, the narrative and the shows will converge, forming one cohesive story.

Patoranger and Lupinranger will also have separate toy lines until the convergence, but once that happens the new toys will be able to combine and interact as is custom for Power Rangers figures. This is a boon for the show toy wise, as they will be able to debut two separate toy lines and then release a third wave when the shows become one. Can't beat 3 toylines for the price of 1, can you?

Another note regards one of the Rangers of Lupinranger being a spy for Patoranger, one of the few who will bounce between both shows. That will give both sides of the story some basis in continuity, and will probably feed into the reasons for the stories merging in the first place.

If these rumors turn out to be true, this could be one of the coolest seasons of Super Sentai yet. This will be the 42nd season of Super Sentai, with the stateside Power Rangers a few seasons behind. The Power Rangers are currently adapting Shuriken Sentai Ninninger as the current Ninja Steel and next season's Super Ninja Steel. Next up is Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger, but some fans will want Saban to skip ahead a bit if this turns out to be as cool as it sounds.
