Star Trek: Discovery might be debuting this weekend, but fans can already stream another entry of the beloved franchise.

Star Trek: The Animated Series is now available to stream via CW Seed. The series aired from 1973 to 1974, and came about thanks to the syndicated success of Star Trek: The Original Series.

The Animated Series reunited almost all of The Original Series' cast, with only Walter Koenig as Pavel Chekov not appearing in the series. Koenig did end up making his mark on the series, writing 'The Infinite Vulcan', the seventh episode of the first season.

While it's been much debated whether or not the events of The Animated Series are actually canon, many Trek fans still look upon the series very fondly. Episodes such as 'The Survivor', 'Yesteryear', and 'The Practical Joker' are largely seen as standouts. The Animated Series was also the first Star Trek property to win an Emmy, earning the Outstanding Children's Series award in 1975.

And with Discovery on the horizon, The Animated Series does become a bit of essential viewing, as it includes an appearance of Harcourt "Harry" Fenton Mudd. A younger version of Harry will be seen on Star Trek: Discovery, played by Rainn Wilson.
