Han Solo Star Wars Story Officially in Production with Punny First Shot

The Han Solo Star Wars Story film (not official title) is officially in principal photography, beginning today a few days ahead of the announced schedule. Chris Miller, who is sharing director duties with Phil Lord on the film, held up a slate for the start of the film with not one but two puns in one tweet. The first comes from the official production title of the movie: "Red Cup" - get it? Like a Solo cup? Han Solo? Get it? Okay, so that one we've known for awhile, but Chris Miller managed to have a little more fun with it, too.

"Han First Shot" he wrote, a play on the fan outcry of "Han Shot First," referring to the scene in Star Wars: Episode IV. In the original cut, Han Solo shot at Greedo unprovoked, killing him before he could even fire a shot; in the recut "Special Edition," however, Han Solo fired only after Greedo tried to shoot at him (and inexplicably missed from point break range).

The movie stars Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo, taking place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope in the time fans refer to as "The Dark Times." Woody Harrelson is playing Han's mentor in the film, with Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and Emilia Clarke in an unnamed female lead.

Han Solo, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, begins principal photography in February 2017 for a 2018 release. Sign in and click the "fire" icons in the box below to rate your anticipation for the movie!
