The last week has seen a whirlwind of news coming from the production of the Han Solo spinoff movie. The departures of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller has certainly caused no shortage of think pieces and speculation regarding the fate of the next Star Wars anthology film. Depending on who you ask, it’s either a smart choice on behalf of Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy or it’s a terrible decision.
But there are many who see Ron Howard coming onto the project as a positive sign, with some even thinking the change could result in a reversal of fortune — especially when it comes to one of the least popular characters in the entire franchise.
A new video from Funny Or Die sees an “anonymous” Star Wars fan the case for Howard to include none other than Jar Jar Binks into the film. Watch the clip above!
“A lot of Star Wars fans out there are upset Ron Howard’s been chosen to replace the Han Solo directors,” says a disguised Gungan voice, “but, uh, meesa think it’s a great move. I mean, he’s gonna make great choices. Best choice would probably be to put Jar Jar in the movie.”
Considering Han Solo didn’t believe in either Jedi or the Force when we first meet him in A New Hope, it’s unlikely that the spinoff will overtly feature any of those beloved aspects. So why not include the next best thing in Jar Jar Binks? He’s been a bombad general, senator, and helped destroy the Republic! That’s a hefty resume.
We hope Howard watches the movie above and can be swayed to include the fan favorite character who charmed his way into every Star Wars fan’s heart in The Phantom Menace.
The Han Solo spin-off movie is still slated to debut in theaters May 25, 2018.
