Star Wars: New Details About Leia's Story in The Last Jedi Revealed
Star Wars have been learning new details about the upcoming new installment, The Last Jedi, thanks [...]
A Desperate Resistance
In the final act of The Force Awakens, The Galactic Republic suffered a big blow when The Third Order's Starkiller Base weapon wiped out The Republic capitol, along with its entire leadership. In The Last Jedi, that devastating blow leaves The Resistance cut off from the larger body of The Republic - which is not good news for General Leia Organa.
According to Rian Johnson:
"They're a small band that's now cut off, on its own, and hunted when the Republic is shattered. When the First Order did that hit, the Resistance is isolated, and they're very, very vulnerable. That's where we pick them up."
For Leia, personally, the situation as even more strenuous, as galactic icon is also going through a time of serious inner turmoil, following the traumatic family events of the previous film. As Johnson describes:
"She's suffered quite a bit. While I was figuring out what her deal was going to be in this film, it's one of the things I talked about with Carrie before I started writing: where the character would go."
As this will be Fisher's final appearance as Leia (the actress won't appear in Episode IX) fans are hoping to see a fitting final arc from the character. It sounds as though there is going to be plenty of room for that happen, given the dire straits she'll start in. If we know our Princess, there isn't a challenge (political, military, or deeply personal) that she can't handle!
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be in theaters on December 15, 2017. For more coverage of the film (and to rate your anticipation for it), be sure to visit our full database page, below.
