The legendary Mark Hamill has been involved with the Star Wars franchise for four decades, stretching all the way back to the first film's release in 1977. And though he had some of the most memorable lightsaber duels in the saga, his battles have been succeeded with some epic fights.
Hamill was asked by Norma Jenner during the European media junket for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, who was the best fighter in the galaxy, and his answer wasn't surprising.
"Oh gosh, [Chirrut Îmwe] in Rogue One, the martial artist," answered Hamill, referencing Donnie Yen's character in the first Star Wars spinoff. "When I saw that, I said 'Well, forget it. I should never pick up a lightsaber again.' I mean, he's just awesome… I knew I was hugely impressed."
Hamill couldn't quite place the character's name (given that it's a Star Wars story, who can blame him) but he like many other's who watched Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was blown away by the actor's prowess.
Yen seemed touched by Hamill's praise, offering a simple response on Twitter when a fan account posted this particular excerpt from the interview: two thumbs up emojis.
In the interview, the Luke Skywalker actor went on to praise the fight sequences throughout the Star Wars franchise.
"I think there's a lot of variety in the various lightsaber duels," Hamill added. "It depends on the choreographer, the stunt guy, and the situation in the films. The one between Kylo and Rey and Snoke's people is just jaw dropping."
Every Star Wars movie has had one epic moment focusing on a hand-to-hand battle between various characters. From the lightsaber duels of the original trilogy, to the flipping CG-based fights of the prequels, to the back-to-basics approach from the newer films, all of them have managed to be more impressive than what came before.
While we don't expect Han Solo to pick up a lasersword in Solo: A Star Wars Story, we do hope Lucasfilm figures out a way to carry on this theme.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now playing in theaters.
