Along with all of the new faces coming to AMC's The Walking Dead in show's seventh season is some exploration of characters whom we have merely scratched the surface of. In prepartion for the most anticipated episode of the entire series airing this Sunday, ComicBook.com is taking a look at some of those characters all week long.

Today, we will get to know a comic book character who is overlooked on the AMC series with her comic book role fulfilled by others: Holly.

On television, Holly first appeared in the JSS episode of The Walking Dead. It would also be her last appearance. The character was seen fighting the Wolves during their invasion but was taken to the infirmary by Aaron and Rosita after being wounded. Denise Cloyd tried to rescue her and remove the knife stuck in her femoral artery but could not control the bleeding and Holly died.

However, Holly's comic book role was much more significant.

TWD Holly Sasha

In the comics, it was Holly who Abraham left his short term love interest Rosita for. She first appeared in issue #73 and was last seen in issue #120.

Shortly after Abraham and Holly's relationship forms, Abraham is killed by Dwight in issue #98. The death was switched on television with Denise being the unlucky recipient of the arrow through the eye. However, the more important factor here is Sasha's filling in for Holly's role in Abraham's life. Whether or not Abraham survives Negan's introduction, Sasha has possibly inherited another key part of Holly's comic book story line.

As one of the first battles between Rick's army of Alexandrian's, Hilltoppers, and Kingdom soldiers wraps up, Holly sacrifices herself by hopping into the driver's seat of a school bus and plunging through the Sanctuary's fences and opening the flood gates. Prior to sacrificing herself, she tells Rick the man who killed Abraham is inside of those walls. Just after the crash, a roamer approaches but Negan kills it and insists she "isn't getting off that easy."

In issue #120, Negan arrives at Alexandria having placed a bag over Holly's head and keeping her hostage for negotiations. Somewhere between issues #117 and #119, Holly died. When Negan hands her over, it's Denise who removes the bag from her head and gets bitten, ultimately dying, too.

We can only assume that Sasha is the frontrunner candidate to take Holly's place in sacrificing herself with revenge over her boyfriend's death in mind. Then again, Rosita is still fairly fond of her ex despite the coldhearted break up.

The Walking Dead returns for its seventh season on Sunday, October 23 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC. For complete coverage and insider info all season long, follow @BrandonDavisBD on Twitter.
