The fate of Heath on The Walking Dead may turn out to be one of those unresolved mysteries we never learn the answer to.

In Episode 7x06, the only episode of Season 7 which Corey Hawkins' character was featured in, his Heath character became surrounded by walkers on a bridge. His character did his best to distract the undead in an effort to protect Tara, who ultimately fell from the bridge into water, also surrounded by walkers. With the episode being told from her perspective, we never ended up seeing Heath again.

Hawkins recently opened up about the possibilities of seeing Heath again on The Walking Dead and, it turns out, they're just that: possibilities.

"It's usually very finite, right? But me and [showrunner] Scott [Gimple] have had a lot of conversations; Scott has been great in terms of asking and talking and really trying to figure out where the character was coming from and going, and you know, professional things take you where they take you, that's normal. But we left it open … so I will just say there is always a possibility, there is always a way."

Hawkins will be the face of Fox's new 24: Legacy series starting in February.

Actors on AMC's The Walking Dead are not allowed to recur on other series as to avoid scheduling conflicts. Hawkins only appeared in occasional episodes of the AMC series, however, so he might be able to get away with a surprise return.

In the comics, Heath is still very much alive at the equivalent point in story which the TV series has reached. In fact, he ends up getting his leg blown off in an iconic moment during the war against Negan and the Saviors but survives that, too. Whether or not the moment will be realized on television with or without Heath is to be seen.

Don't expect to see the character any time soon, though.
