Simple Rick appeared in the Rick and Morty Season Three episode "The Ricklantis Mixup," also known as "Tales from the Citadel," which explored the lives of several different Ricks and Mortys who live on the Citadel set up by the Council of Ricks. The episode includes one Rick who works on the factory line for a company called Simple Rick's that makes tasty wafer deserts.

A commercial for Simple Rick's reveals that they make their wafer by hooking up an actual Rick called Simple Rick, a version of Rick from a dimension where he did woodwork instead of super science. The reason for the change was because Rick had long ago realized that his daughter, Beth, was his greatest creation, and that moment of realization, replayed over and over to Simple Rick from his own memory, is the flavor of the wafers.

This Simple Rick mashup with The Walking Dead takes the same idea and replaces Rick Sanchez with Rick Grimes, using footage of Rick working on The Walking Dead, holding his daughter Judith, and sitting in his hospital bed after waking from a coma to supply the footage while the voiceover from the Simple Rick's commercial plays on top of it. Take a look at the video below.

Rick and Morty finished its third season earlier this year. It will return for a fourth season eventually, though probably not for a really long time.

In the meantime, The Walking Dead Season Eight will premiere tonight, October 22, 2017, on AMC.
