More details about Fox's upcoming X-Men television series, currently operating under the title The Gifted, continue to surface. The latest details suggest that the series' pilot episode may visit the era of World War II.
The information comes in the form of a casting call put out for The Gifted. In addition to other roles, the show is looking to cast extras as soldiers in the SS, the Nazi paramilitary group.
The Gifted takes place in an era where Sentinels employed by an anti-mutant government are a going concern. While nothing as been confirmed, it seems safe to say that the primary setting of The Gifted is not Nazi Germany.
However, there's is one character confirmed for The Gifted that may provide a connection. Emma Dumont will play Lorna Dane, the mutant Mistress of Magnetism also known as Polaris. Polaris inherited her powers from her father, the Master of Magnetism, Magneto.

Magneto's backstory is heavily rooted in his experience in the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Holocaust and World War II. Perhaps the World War II setting will be during a flashback as Polaris recalls the stories her father told her about life in the camp.
On the other hand, The Gifted is, as mentioned, dealing with Sentinels as villains. One very powerful Sentinel called Nimrod is capable of time travel. Perhaps the World War II setting is a hint at a major villain that will appear in the show.
The Gifted follows Kate and Reed Stewart, two human parents who discover that their children are mutants. The family is forced to go on the run from an anti-mutant government and eventually meet up with an underground mutant resistance movement led by a mutant called Sam. The government has the mutant-hunting robots called Sentinels. which were previously seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past, at its disposal. Other X-Men from the Marvel Comics universe, including Polaris and Blink, are expected to appear.
The Gifted is now in production. The concept was developed by Matt Nix, who wrote the pilot episode. X-Men movies veteran Bryan Singer will direct. Nix and Singer, along with Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jim Chory, and Jeph Loeb will all serve as executive producers. The pilot stars Redford, Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker, Jamie Chung, Sean Teale, Natalie Alyn Lind, Emma Dumont, Percy Hynes White, and Coby Bell.
The Gifted will be the second X-Men television project to enter production, following the FX drama Legion, which will conclude its first season on Wednesday. Legion has already been renewed for a second season.
