Supernatural knows how to tug at the heartstrings of fans, and it has a new character who could make anyone’s heart tremble. The show returned tonight with its season 13 premiere that introduced the world to Jack, the actual spawn of satan. However, when it comes to Castiel, Misha Collins says the angel doesn’t see the boy as something to hate.
Instead, it seems like the hero has grown rather fond of the nephilim.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Collins chatted about Castiel and his character arc this season. It was during the interview that Collins brought up Jack, and the actor had this to say:
“There is a bond. Cas does really see himself as guardian to this kid.”
For fans, hearing those words will make them feel a certain type of way. Supernatural went back to The CW tonight to show Jack off to audiences, and the teenager broke hearts with his naive confusion. The poor kid just wanted to find his dad, but fans were led to believe Jack was talking about Lucifer.
He wasn’t though. In the end, Jack was referring to Castiel as his father.
After being trapped in a jail cell with Sam, Jack revealed it was Castiel whom he has chosen to be his dad. The nephilim’s mom told her son that Castiel would be his father and that he would protect Jack from all of the world’s cruelties. When the boy learned Castiel had died, his eyes were heart-breaking to even look at, so fans are sure to cry when the celestial duo actually get to meet each other face-to-face.
Still, there will be plenty of dangers for Castiel to face once he gets back to his boys - and they will be coming for Jack. Heaven is out to destroy the son of Lucifer before he can bring about an apocalypse, and Dean is even wary of the nephilim. If Castiel wants to protect the boy he's come to view as his own, then the angel will have to watch both his and Jack's backs.
Supernatural airs on The CW on Thursdays at 7:00 CST.
