Apparently, someone in the Arrowverse is interested in summoning Shenron because there was a surprising Dragon Ball Easter egg in DC's Legends of Tomorrow.

In the second episode of the third season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, titled "Freakshow," the legends traveled back to 1870 and visited the then relatively small circus of PT Barnum (Billy Zane). However, some fans noticed that it wasn't just any circus ball in the ring at this particular event, but two of the Dragon Balls from Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball franchise of manga and anime.

The 1-star ball and the 4-star ball can be seen in the photo below, sporting the red on orange design straight from Dragon Ball.

Funnily enough, it may have been easier for DC's Legends of Tomorrow to reference Dragon Ball than to directly reference Barnum's real-world circus with its popular tagline of "The Greatest Show on Earth," as guest star Billy Zane explained to ComicBook.com in an interview.

"We pushed that on the day. I always find, if you can turn deficits into assets then you're onto something, because that's the space of the beautiful accident," Zane said. "Limitation can be your best friend, and due to whatever legal constraints around using the term Greatest Show on Earth, we said 'Who says he cracked it right away?' We're looking at the man in the process, who seemingly owes much of his early success to the intervention of the Legends, so why not have him spitballing and formulating versions of it two or three times? And then that became just a great schtick that we played with. We just wrote near-misses and gave really fun asides to his co-workers and supporting actors, to give them nice laughs and bits."

However, they did get Barnum to drop a sly Superman Easter egg by referring to Citizen Steel as "the Man of Steel." That may seem like a throwaway joke now, but after what Arrow did with Batman last week, who knows where that seemingly innocuous reference could lead.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
