Supergirl Casting For Jimmy Olsen, Cyborg Superman And More

A  number of Superman's supporting cast members who haven't yet made it to the big screen in Man of Steel or Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will apparently be headed to TV with Supergirl, TVLine reports.

The series, executive produced by Arrow and The Flash's Greg Berlanti, is casting a number of new roles including Jimmy Olsen, Cat Grant...and Hank Henshaw, the man who would be the Cyborg Superman (before Flashpoint, anyway).

Here's how TVLine breaks down the casting...some of which sounds quite a bit like the New 52 iterations of the characters and some, not so much:

CAT GRANT | The project is eyeing females in their 40s, open ethnicity, to play the founder of CatCo, a media conglomerate that Cat built from the ground up. Kara (Supergirl's mild-mannered alter ego) will work as a personal assistant to Cat, who is described as "J.Lo by way of Anna Wintour."

JAMES OLSEN | In his late 20s/early 30s, open ethnicity, James is a smart, worldly and (duh) attractive photographer for CatCo. Though an alpha male, his salt-of-the-earth nature elicits a huge ol' crush from Kara.

WINSLOW 'WYNN' SCHOTT | This twentysomething tech whiz/Comic-Con stalwart toils for CatCo as a programmer, unaware of his own (toying?) potential. Unware of her secret, he carries a torch for Kara, whom he lives next door to.

HANK HENSHAW | As an upstart CIA agent, Hank grew obsessed with intergalactic intel. Now in his 40s and lording over the DEO (Department of Extra-Normal Operations), he is on high alert when Supergirl reveals herself, worried that her otherworldly abilities pose a threat to humankind.

Of course, while Henshaw isn't Cyborg Superman in the New 52, the newly-reimagined Cyborg Superman has a close connection to Supergirl, so having Henshaw pop up is interesting. that he's running the DEO is intriguing, too, and opens the door to potential new characters like Director Bones, Chase, Kate Spencer's Manhunter and others.

Schott, of course, is the Toyman in the comics, a Superman villain best known for making deadly gadgets that look like children's toys. In the 1990s, he murdered Cat Grant's son Adam (although it was later retconned to be an impostor, not actually Schott).

And the whole CatCo concept is interesting; didn't she and Clark Kent recently strike out on their own briefly to start a media company before Clark returned to the Daily Planet?

Supergirl is casting now and will go into production soon with an eye toward a debut next fall on CBS. It already has a series commitment.
