The Hunger Games Is Heading To The Stage

Having conquered the world of books and films, The Hunger Games franchise is now hunting its latest medium—the stage.

Lionsgate films and Dutch media company Imagine Nation announced this morning that "The Hunger Games" will be adapted into a theatrical play. Launching in 2016, the stage adaptation will premiere in a brand new, London-based theater built specifically for "The Hunger Games'" storytelling demands.

Award-winning Broadway producer Robin de Levita, along with Harvey Goldsmith and a slew of other veteran entertainment executives, will produce the stage performance. De Levita is known for her technologically groundbreaking stage productions, where she incorporates rotating stage sets and auditoriums. This gives the audience a 360 degree environment to experience.

"Robin de Levita and the entire production team are the perfect partners for extending The Hunger Games franchise into a live theatrical experience,"  Lionsgate Chief Marketing Officer Tim Palen said in a statement. "Their creative genius, combined with world-class production values and state-of-the-art technology will provide a uniquely immersive experience for fans around the world."

No word has been given on how the stage production will adapt Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games universe. The Hunger Games story was originally told in a trilogy of novels, while the film adaptations are currently break the story into four separate movies. No casting or directing announcements have been made yet.

"The Hunger Games" returns to theaters for it's penultimate feature film, The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay—Part.1 on November 21st. It will adapt the first half of Collins' final Hunger Games novel, "Mocking Jay".
