Marvel has released a new behind-the-scenes video promoting their upcoming television miniseries, Agent Carter.
In the video, series star Hayley Atwell discusses the nature of her character’s double life as an Strategic Scientific Reserve clerk and secret agent in the 1940s. While many people think Agent Carter is just an administrative assistant to the SSR, she’s actually an international spy who’s secretly establishing S.H.I.E.L.D. with Iron Man’s dad, Tony Stark.
As Agent Carter tackles cases and embarks on spy missions, she’ll also have to grapple with her male compatriots’ gross underestimations of her.
"She has an intelligence about her and a skill set that's very impressive," Atwell told People Magazine, who debuted the video. "And yet we get to see the emotional and psychological cost of her character, of someone who's having to live a double life."
Agent Carter is a spinoff series of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which chronicles the international spy organization’s early days. Taking place shortly after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger, the series stars Peggy Carter and Howard Stark as they tackle HYDRA and other threats.
