Charlie Hunnam Hoping For Less Visual Effects In Pacific Rim 2

Former Sons of Anarchy star, and soon to be King Arthur, Charlie Hunnam is the cover boy on the next issue of Entertainment Weekly. Hunnam is also the star of Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, and Hunnam spoke to EW about how he'd like the sequel to rein in some of the special effects.

"When it becomes very technical, those technical aspects create a rigidity to the process," he said. "Then all of the sudden, you have to find where your little place to fit into that process is, as opposed to the whole thing being about you."

Hunnam goes on to say that he feels the robots took a little too much of the spotlight in the first film.

"I think world creation and monster creation and all of that stuff is exciting as a secondary element of storytelling. When it becomes more important than storytelling, I get very nervous, and you sort of lose me a little bit," Hunnam said. "Although we tried very hard on Pacific Rim to marry those two elements, I do feel like ultimately it got weighed heavier on the side of spectacle than storytelling."

All that said, Hunnam is still looking to forward to taking another crack at the giant robot genre when Pacific Rim 2 starts filming this fall.
