When The Invincible Iron Man #1 launches this October, Tony Stark will reach new heights in both his world and ours.
Marvel Comics has confirmed that Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez’s Invincible Iron Man #1 has sold more than 300,000 copies at the distributor level. The news exceeds ComicBook.com’s report last month that Invincible Iron Man would sell 200,000 copies, making it the best-selling Iron Man premiere issue in more than seven years.
“Invincible Iron Man #1 will surpass 300k units sold, making it one of the biggest comic debuts of 2015,” Marvel's SVP of Sales & Marketing David Gabriel told ComicBook.com. “Brian and David have put together something really special for one of the most recognizable super heroes on the planet. We’re beyond excited to have this many fans on-board for Tony Stark’s new beginning and the launch of All-New, All-Different Marvel.”
The series certainly has the ingredients for a record-breaking debut. Not only is Invincible Iron Man #1 anchored by an all-star creative team (Bendis and Marquez also brought Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man), but it also leads Marvel’s anticipated “All-New, All Different Marvel” publishing initiative, where every series and character will restart with a new premiere issue. It’s also the first issue to show the post-Secret Wars Marvel Universe, giving readers an idea of how Marvel will look after the status quo-changing event.
“We couldn’t be happier with the high orders on Invincible Iron Man #1,” Gabriel elaborated. “We’ve been saying all along that this book is going to be the flagship title for the new Marvel Universe, and we’re glad retailers and fans took notice in such a huge way.”
It also helps that Invincible Iron Man #1 comes suited with several different variant covers, incentivizing comic shop retailers to bump their orders up for the rare covers. Marvel was able to exclusively debut one of those variants, by Skottie Young, with ComicBook.com. You can view the full image in the gallery below.
