Anthony Daniels Says Star Wars: The Force Awakens "Secrecy Has Been Beyond Ludicrous"

For Anthony Daniels, Star Wars isn't just another franchise; it is practically a way of life for the 69 year old actor, who has been involved with it for over half his time on this planet as the protocol droid C-3PO. That affords him a unique point of view on the state of affairs for Star Wars, and also a little more bluntness than many actors would ever dare approach such a momentous occupation with.

He is, after all, the only actor to appear in all seven live action films (and much more beyond that).

When chatting with The Guardian in a recently published interview, then, Daniels used some of that bluntness to address the secrecy around today's films (Star Wars: The Force Awakens in particular), and some comments on the prequels. While he was thrilled to work with J.J. Abrams, who "is more collaborative" than George Lucas, the actor said, he has also been unimpressed with the level to which Disney/Lucasfilm goes to keep things under wraps.

"The secrecy has been beyond ludicrous," Daniels said. "For heaven's sake, it's a movie. When I got the script, it was typed in black on paper of the deepest red so you couldn't photocopy it. I got a hangover just reading it."

Secrecy aside, Daniels does love C-3PO, and has voiced the character in video games, animation, and pretty much anything else they've asked him to. He revealed in the interview that he'll be in Star Wars: Episode VIII and Star Wars: Episode IX as well, returning as the character.

"I had become fond of C-3PO and couldn't just abandon him. I think I felt responsible for him," he said. It seems he won't abandon him for quite some time yet.
