You can strike a Captain Marvel casting announcement off your Christmas list as Marvel President Kevin Feige says the studio isn't close to deciding who should play the immensely-powerful female superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"There won't be any announcements about that this year," Feige told MTV at a Marvel event promoting the home release of Avengers: Age of Ultron. "I think right now we're scripting the film, figuring out who we want Carol Danvers to be, and really what the structure of the movie will be and what her part will be in some of our other Phase 3films. And it would be next year that we start to really think about casting."

"I think getting the character right first is going to lead the charge," he added, "We want to make sure we know who it is before we can start figuring out who should play it."

Feige's got screenwriters Meg LeFauve ("Inside Out") and Nicole Perlman ("Guardians of the Galaxy") working on the script at the moment -- describing them as "great" and "amazing" writers.

For those of you that enjoy making fan-casts, I have good news for you. Kevin Feige admitted that "when a fan list comes out… we look at it!" See, now you can tell your friends that you didn't waste your time putting together a Marvel dream cast.

"We read it, we go through it, we read the comments, we look at who people like," Marvel film producer Jeremy Latcham verified. "Sometimes it's really enlightening. Sometimes it's the exact same person that they've been saying over and over again that we don't think is right. It's always fun to kinda go through it and see what people are up to."

Captain Marvel is scheduled to open in theaters November 2, 2018.
