The Martian scored $10.8M on Friday at the North American box office, putting it in position to win its second straight weekend with $36.5M. Hotel Transylvania 2, in its third weekend, continues to perform very well with $5.3M on Friday. It is headed for second-place this weekend with $23M.

Pan debuted in third-place on Friday with $5.1M and is headed for a lackluster $18M opening weekend. With a reported $150M budget, Pan has a long way to go before it can break even. Audiences gave the film a 'B+' CinemaScore, however, only 3% of the audience was under 12. The kids aren't coming out to see Pan, a movie meant for kids. D'oh! Much of the audience is made up of women over the age of 25 that are fans of Hugh Jackman.

Meanwhile, The Intern slides into fourth with 2.5M on Friday, Sicario takes fifth with $2.2M, Maze Runner 2 grabs sixth with $1.45M, The Walk stumbles into seventh with $1.15M, Black Mass takes eight with $950K, Everest descends to ninth with $938K and The Visit clings to tenth with $775K.
