Stine's popular Scholastic children's book series, received an 'A' CinemaScore from audiences, ensuring good word-of-mouth. Of that audience, 52% were under the age of 25.

The Martian drops into second on Friday with a solid $6.4M and should finish its third weekend with $22M. Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies grabs third with $5.35M on Friday. It is expected to finish its opening weekend with $15.9M. It earned an 'A' Cinemascore.

Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak is haunted with a fourth-place finish on Friday. The R-rated gothic-horror film only earned $5.29M on the night and is expected to finish its first weekend with $13M. Analyst had predicted at least $8M on Friday and an $18M-$20M opening. It will get no help from word-of-mouth as audiences gave it a lackluster 'B-' CinemaScore.
